Louisiana Swamp Photos

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve has six locations. The Barataria location is a natural preserve outside of New Orleans and encompasses approximately 20,000 acres of hardwood forest, cypress swamp and fresh water marsh. The Barataria Preserve (in Marrero) interprets the natural and cultural history of the uplands, swamps, and marshlands of the region. These photos are available at DonnaBellas Zazzle and DonnaBellas CafePress.

Indian Artifact

The tree roots are twisted in interesting patterns. They were shaped over years by the Native Americans who used to inhabit this area.

Primordial Landscape

The soft ferns and lush landscape seem primordial enough that a dinosaur could come through them at any time.

Swamp Serenity

The moss and the tree branches hang in soft layers over each over creating a comforting blanket of green.

Snake Sunbath

Snakes take advantage of laying out in the sun. They twist over each other as they share a branch that hovers over the water.

Moss Canopy

Sunlight peaks through the dense moss canopy that hangs over all the tree branches.
